An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a highly automated electronic portable device that check’s the heart rhythm. AEDs are used to treat victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. If needed, the AED can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore the heart back to a normal rhythm.
In The Villages there is an exemplary best in class neighborhood program that is the envy of most communities that was created by Lew Simon and sponsored by the Villages Public Safety Department. This program has proven successful in exceeding the cardiac arrest survival rate nationally.
The POA is delighted to be partnering with the Villages Public Safety Department to proliferate the spread of this successful program. CPR/AED neighborhood orientation presentations and refresher training can be provided by the POA.
